Using Phantoms

The word “phantoms” describes background processes which can be run as part of the computing environments (UniVerse or jBASE) upon which TCS is built.  Phantoms have the following advantages:

-          A process running as a phantom doesn’t use up a TCS or computing environment license for a port.

-          For automated processes, some users prefer to not use screen real estate.  Rather just turn them on and let them go.

For the TCS / CT Center dialer interface there are a couple of processes which have historically been implemented as phantoms.  They are the Interactive IO program and the program which processes batch return files.

CCI has a software add-on for TCS called the Phantom Job Processor which gives a user-friendly interface for managing phantoms at the enterprise level.  Additionally, we have been able to customize commands, as needed, for agencies to make the interface processes run in the background.
